UCL ECHR Moot

Legal argument is integral to a healthy human rights culture. Through our annual mooting competition, we aim to equip students with the exhilarating experience of real human rights advocacy before a bench of genuine ECtHR judges, with the final rounds hosted at the Court in Strasbourg.

Rights through Research

For us research is not just a vocation: it is a movement. Our ultimate aim is to facilitate informed decision-making infused with human rights principles and values. RtR provides a legitimate platform for more of us to contribute to society through cutting-edge human rights research and built on partnerships in research projects. On the way, we hope to involve as many people and practitioners as possible, with opportunity to gain research skills, experience and knowledge.

Intervention Action Team

Students of all disciplines can research and draft legal interventions, in partnership with the 100,000 qualified solicitors and barristers from the Law Society of England & Wales, on behalf of lawyers at risk of human rights abuse across the world. Students have monitored and collaborated on a range of pilot research interventions on regional, country and individual levels.

Our events are exciting for a number of reasons. One of these is that they unite those who are, sometimes quite literally, on the front line, with those who, the conflict is all about: us. The availability of CPD hours helps to attract the participation of a wider audience and show a career-focused element aims to show students that a future in the field of human rights is an attractive and achievable goal.

Bulletin

The Bulletin is all about awareness. Our members produce it monthly in a compendious form to act as a quick and easy point of call for both those already active in the human rights field and those seeking signposts for important and recent human rights news and cases. Each issue also features an interview with a prominent figure in the human rights world.

The annual UCL Human Rights Review spearheads the academic facet of our culture of human rights. Each edition, compiled by an entirely student-led editorial team, houses the thoughts of eminent human rights scholars alongside the first-class writing of students.

Grass Roots

Making a Human Rights Comic? Want to become an Editor for a New Human Rights Magazine for Kids? Thinking of launching a Human Rights campaign? Participating in a ‘Debate your Right Night’ at your school? The Grass Root’s Volunteers will work in collaboration with your school to help inspire and animate the imagination of children across London.
