This UCL SHRP research report, edited by the Guardian’s Liberty Central columnist Henry Porter, was complied for The Convention on Modern Liberty on 28th February and marks the beginning of a research project that seeks to reflect on legislation since the Human Rights Act 1998 and the unintended consequences they have had on rights and liberties in the UK.

Have rights benefited from the last ten years of a Human Rights Act era, or have our legislators discovered increasingly innovative ways of chipping away at the fundamental freedoms that had previously ushered in this new era of human rights culture?

The fallout of these actions have yet to be profiled more comprehensibly. The Abolition of Freedom Act 2009 Report is a starting point for anyone interested in thinking critically about actions past and who are looking for a brief inventory to decode the primary challenges that face liberty in the UK today.
