The governments in the West have been less than united in their response to the imposition of this blockade, except for occasional mild utterings of their ‘deep regrets’ and ‘unacceptable’ nature of it. This has been less than satisfactory for many in the West. The number of high profile westerners on Gaza aid flotilla is an indication of that.
RoniRomanian Discrimination against Roma Population

Amnesty International released a report this week highlighting the plight of Roma across Europe particularly in Romania. The report ‘Treated like waste: Roma homes destroyed, and health at risk, in Romania’ focuses on an incident in 2004 where Roma were evicted from their homes in central Miercurea Ciuc and forced by local authorities to live in settlements next to a sewage plant.
ZANU-PF land seizures

One year into Zimbabwe’s unity government, President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party is continuing its policy of confiscating land owned by white farmers. One million farm workers have also now been made both landless and jobless; 100,000 of which have found employment in farms in South Africa.
