UCL: Repealing civil liberties in the UK: Investigating compliance with the ECHR

4th June 2009, 14:00
University of Nottingham, LASS Building, B 55

Representatives of the University College London Human Rights Student Programme will give a talk about their recent report, Abolition of Freedom Act 2009, on 4 June at 16.00 in B55, Law and Social Sciences Building.

The Abolition of Freedom Act 2009, has been a provocative issue of the UCL Human Rights Student Programme. It analyses the current compliance of the civil liberties legal framework in the UK with the European Convention of Human Rights, bringing about thought-provoking arguments on the current state of constitutional guarantees in the UK. In particular, the drafting committee has outlined that data on DNA collected during trials stored in databases, or the keeping of personal e-mails and phone calls data, violate personal freedom.
