Tarique Ghaffur in race bias case against Sir Ian Blair

Last updated on 4th September 2008 at 12:17 am |

Britain’s most high-ranking Asian police officer, Tarique Ghaffur, is taking proceedings to court against Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair. Codenamed Vivaldi, Ghaffur claims that he was the victim of surveillance and had his phone illegally tapped on more than 100 occasions in an operation which cost tax-payers GBP 4 million. Sir Blair faces further pressure from Commander Shabbir Hussain who alleges that his promotion to deputy assistant commissioner was blocked four times due to racial bias on the part of Sir Blair.
